Equineimity

 In June of 2009 I had the awesome experience of working with Sandy Howard of American Sport Horse in Watsonville, CA.  I also had the pleasure of leasing her I-1 upper level dressage schoolmaster to learn flying changes, lateral movements half-pass, pirouette, and piaffe!  For all you dressage junkies out there you know how addictive that all can be!

Sandy was particularly good with me in that I like a stern and straight forward teacher, yet understanding and patient when trying to readjust my body into a new suggested position! (Yes, I do know what it's like to be a student that has to shift around up there too!)

Sandy and her daughter Anne are particularly amazing instructors as they gain and share their knowledge through their own education and explorations with Mary Wanless, author of multiple books focusing on correct biomechanics of horse and rider pairs.  

I had the pleasure of watching multiple videos in real time and slow motion and hearing the critiques of joints and movements of horses and riders.  I even had the pleasure and sometimes frustrating time of helping Sandy put a video segment together for the USDF-L judges and trainers lecture on the "verticle dynamic" of horse and rider pairs.  All really cool and interesting stuff as we watch amazing horses progress through the upper levels correctly engaging themselves in true athleticism and collection.

 I am hoping to arrange another "Schooling" trip to the Santa Cruz/Watsonville area again in Fall/Winter of 2010.
